With the registration on the Peruvian market, Vidre+™ now offers a solution for avocado exporters to extend the freshness of their fruit, enabling transport to more distant markets. Peru, a top avocado exporter, held a 12.2% global market share in 2022. In 2023 alone, Peru exported 616,000 tons of avocados to over 40 countries worldwide. The export value exceeded $1 billion, with more than 60% of the harvest going to Europe and 14% to the USA.
Vidre+™ safeguards fresh produce and even flowers from the harmful effects of ethylene, thereby extending their freshness. This technology is encapsulated in an easy-to-apply sticker, making it accessible to growers and producers, regardless of size. As a result, it helps reduce food waste at every production stage.

“Entering the Peruvian market is a significant step for Fresh Inset. We are confident that Vidre+™ can assist Peruvian fresh produce growers, as it will enhance their ability to transport fruits over longer distances and reduce food waste. According to the trials on avocados, Vidre+™ supports the retention of external fruit greenness and significantly improves firmness over time. In the case of limes, Vidre+™ technology extends the shelf life of limes. After 8 days-long test on a simulated grocery shelf, 70% of limes treated with Vidre+™ stayed green, compared to only 28% of untreated ones. Considering that Vidre+™ is already available in Argentina, starting in Peru shows how important the LatAm market is for Fresh Inset.” — states Alfredo Malarin, Fresh Inset General Manager Peru.
As for limes, similarly, Vidre+™ will help exporters reach Europe and even the Far East markets with an incomparable level of freshness. Exported volumes of fresh limes have doubled since 2020, when Peru exported 800 lime containers to almost 1,600 containers in 2023. Today key destinations include the USA, Chile, and the Dominican Republic, which together accounted for 80% of the export volume by the end of week 6 in 2024. Major importers such as Andean Sun, Farm Direct, and Walmart are pivotal in this growth.

Both avocado and lime are ethylene-sensitive fruits. That means limited shelf life and further constraints regarding export time and distance. As trials conducted on avocados and limes prove, Vidre+™ can defend them from the negative effects of ethylene. It slows respiration and protects avocados and lime’s quality over time.
The presence of Vidre+™ on the Peru market is expected to bolster further avocados and limes exports allowing exporters to reach Europe and even the Far East markets with an incomparable level of freshness.
Vidre+™ is a simple-to-use sticker format for produce freshness protection. It works on various fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Simple stickers are placed on the packaging which protects it from the negative effects of ethylene throughout the whole supply chain by timed and gradual release. The technology revolutionizes the fight against food waste while delivering unparalleled freshness and fruit quality, vegetables, and flowers for the good of the planet, the food industry, and final consumers.
