We are happy to share that Vidre+™ has been selected as a finalist in the Climate (Pre-Commercialized) category of the Packaging Europe Sustainability Awards 2025. Some recognize this award as the “Nobel Prize” of sustainable packaging innovations. Big big thanks to our partner Avery Dennison  for making this happen.

Story behind

Fresh produce is one of the most valued – and vulnerable – segments of our food supply. While global demand grows, so does the challenge of keeping fruits and vegetables fresh from field to fork. Each year, over $1 trillion (date: UNEP) worth of food is wasted worldwide, much of it due to spoilage. The ripple effect is enormous: economic loss, increased emissions, and missed opportunities for producers and retailers alike. If packaging could do more than just contain freshness, what if it could protect and prolong it?

The solution.

That’s one of our drivers behind our work in Fresh Inset, where we are developing Vidre+™ technology.  Our solution protects fresh produce and flowers against the loss of postharvest quality caused by ethylene, a natural hormone that accelerates ripening and spoilage. Vidre+™ technology integrates slow-release 1-MCP (compound inhibiting plant ethylene reception) into packaging solutions, effectively neutralizing ethylene’s impact and preserving products’ freshness.

For growers and distributors, this means better resilience on long transport routes. For retailers, fewer markdowns. And for the planet? Less waste, lower emissions, and a more sustainable food chain.

Fingers crossed.

The winners of the Sustainability Awards 2025 will be announced during Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place in Utrecht, Netherlands, on 10th – 12th November.
